Sinopsis Español:

I Walked With a Zombie es una historia espeluznante de vudú y sonambulismo. Al igual que en su anterior Cat People, Tourneur y el productor Val Lewton logran una extraordinaria complejidad formal con medios limitados, y aunque su póster podría sugerir una sensacional marca de horror, la película es de hecho bastante elegante. La historia trata una enfermera que visita las Antillas para cuidar a la esposa catatónica de un sembrador local, pero la película es mucho más que su trama. Un personaje extraño y onírico prevalece a lo largo de la película, acentuado por sus sorprendentes composiciones y subrayado por un recurrente y percusivo telón de fondo de tambores rituales. Es una película sobre gente a la deriva, entre ellos y de ellos mismos.

I Walked With a Zombie is an eerie tale of voodoo and somnambulism. As in their earlier Cat People, Tourneur and producer Val Lewton achieve an extraordinary formal complexity with limited means, and though its poster might suggest a sensational brand of horror, the film is in fact quite graceful. The story concerns a nurse who visits the West Indies to care for the catatonic wife of a local planter, but the movie is much more than its plot. A strange, oneiric character prevails throughout the film, emphasized by its striking compositions and underscored by a recurrent, percussive backdrop of ritual drumming. It's a film about people adrift, from each other and from themselves.
