Gerwin Tamsma is senior programmer for the International Film Festival Rotterdam, and currently a member of the festival’s artistic committee overseeing the feature films’ programming.
Working with IFFR since 1996, he has curated various retrospectives and thematic programmes. Over the years, he has developed and coordinated several of the festival’s strands and programmes, such as Bright Future (focussing on emerging film talent), and for many years, was responsible for the selection of films from Korea, China, Latin America as well as Spain, Italy, Portugal and Scandinavia. He has served on the committee for IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund for more than 20 years.

Before becoming involved with IFFR in 1996, he worked as a freelance critic and editor, contributing to NRC Handelsblad, Dutch Film Yearbook and others. Tamsma also has served as an advisor to Dutch Film Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts. He has been on many international juries, for instance at Vancouver, Morelia, Bafici, Locarno, FICUNAM, CPH:DOX, Indielisboa, as well as Cindi Seoul and Jeonju festivals in Korea.
