La acción tiene lugar en el mítico Nazaret, el mayor conglomerado árabe urbano de Israel, con unos 60,000 habitantes, de los cuales un 33% son cristianos. Aunque aparentemente normal, la ciudad está en ebullición. Con su compañía en bancarrota, un hombre decide asumir una postura y poner fin a las disputas cotidianas que hacen de su vida un verdadero infierno. Este hombre es el padre de E.S., el principal protagonista de la película (las iniciales son las del director Elia Suleiman, que también es el actor principal). E.S. vive en Jerusalén y está teniendo un romance con una mujer que vive en Ramallah. Hay una barrera israelí entre los dos. Debe esforzarse por usar su tiempo lo mejor que pueda, dividido entre las demandas de un padre enfermo y su amor distante.
The action takes place in mythical Nazareth, the largest urban Arab conglomerate in Israel, with some 60 thousand inhabitants of which some 33% are Christian. Although apparently normal, the city is seething. With his company going bankrupt, a man decides to assume an attitude and put an end to the petty day-to-day bickering that make his life sheer hell. This man is the father of E.S., the main protagonist of the film (the initials are those of director Elia Suleiman, who is also the main actor). E.S. lives in Jerusalem and is having a love affair with a woman who lives in Ramallah. There is an Israeli barrier between the two. He is to endeavor to use his time as best he can, divided between demands from a sick father and his distant love.
